Donation Helps Make Surgery Safer Around the World
WAYNE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 2014--
Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE:TFX), a leading global provider of medical
devices for critical care and surgery, has announced that they have
donated $20,000 to the Lifebox
Foundation. The donation was the result of a Lifebox Challenge
hosted by Teleflex during the ANESTHESIOLOGY™
2014 Annual Meeting in October. Teleflex donated $20 for every
meeting attendee who participated in the Lifebox photo challenge.
“Teleflex is proud to partner with the Anesthesiology community to raise
awareness and funds for the Lifebox campaign,” said Justin McMurray,
President and General Manager, Anesthesia and Respiratory Division,
Teleflex. “This partnership illustrates our commitment to connecting
clinicians and medical technology in a way that makes surgery safer for
patients around the world.”
The Lifebox Foundation helps deliver the world’s foremost low-cost and
high-quality pulse oximeter to thousands of people undergoing surgery in
under-resourced countries. Pulse oximeters, non-invasive medical devices
that check the level of oxygen in a patient’s bloodstream and sound an
alarm as soon the slightest unsafe change is detected, are used as a
standard in many hospitals in countries such as the United Kingdom and
the United States. More than 70,000 operating rooms providing about 31.5
million operations annually in underdeveloped countries do not have
pulse oximeters.
“Through our campaign for Lifebox, and other initiatives being driven by
the ASA Charitable Foundation, we are able to impact surgical safety
around the globe,” said ASA Charitable Foundation President Alexander A.
Hannenberg, M.D. “We are thrilled that Teleflex is supporting our
Lifebox campaign and are grateful for their generous donation to
surgical patients worldwide.”
Teleflex is an Industry Supporter of the American Society of
Anesthesiologists and through its Arrow®, LMA®,
Hudson RCI® and Rusch® Brands, has a strong
history of delivering practical innovation to improve the health and
quality of people’s lives.
